Working in PR can feel like a high-stakes sport. Fast pivots, quick-reads, and complex playbooks, all under the lights.
At kate & co., we don’t suit up in shoulder pads—but we do have branded hard hats. Still skeptical? Step inside a crisis comms meeting or a brand launch strategy session, it’s basically fourth and goal with the clock winding down.
Here’s what we’ve learned as champions in our field.
Every Organization Needs a QB
Every successful team needs a quarterback, just ask the Browns. Messaging alignment starts with leadership, and when that person is trained, confident, and in sync with the rest of the team, everything flows. For most organizations, we’re the coach’s voice in the quarterback’s ear, the Sean McVay to your Matthew Stafford.
But it’s important we do both. We can just as easily have a member of our expert team running routes and preparing you for what the defense is going to throw at you.
The NFL doesn’t send linemen to press conferences, and we don’t send clients in unprepared. When a client is confident, proactive, and plays are aligned, everything else falls into place. Without it, the locker room, and the business, can collapse. Just ask the Miami Dolphins.
The Playbook Matters
No team hits the field without a game plan. We meet, define your goals, and break them into clear, measurable objectives. When challenges arise, panic can cause a real fumble.
The NFL drills its players on different scenarios, and so do we. Like NFL teams, we drill scenarios—mapping out the tone, timing, and delivery—so there are no surprises when pressure presents.
A Good Line Wins Games
In football, linemen often get overlooked, but they’re the ones who handle the details of a play and make it possible for the skill players to do their thing. Just think of the career Andrew Luck might’ve had if he had a line to keep him upright.
Our version of the offensive line? The less glamorous but essential work: media training, internal FAQs, media relations, email communications, and content creation. Clients remember the touchdowns, but they trust us because we show up consistently prepared and don’t skip over the details.
Saquon Barkley ran for a historic year in 2024, and the Eagles won the Super Bowl. However, he got there because he was prepared and he ran behind an amazing offensive line.
A Good Team Has Depth
Tom Brady didn’t win all those championships alone, and no one runs a successful PR campaign solo either.
At kate & co., every win is a team win, from client managers to content creators. We rely on each other, we anticipate needs, and we trust that someone’s got our blind side covered. That kind of coordination doesn’t happen overnight. It’s built through repetition, respect and a shared goal. When Mo Lewis takes Bledsoe down, we know there’s a Brady that can take his place.
You’re in Good Company
The NFL dominates TV because it tells compelling stories. Become even a casual fan, and you’ll hear about the 13-second game against the Chiefs within a week.
Or maybe you’re one of the viewers unwillingly following the Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift saga (or happily, as all of my colleagues are). The league keeps the game accessible through stories on and off the field.
At kate & co., we do the same: making your story clear, relatable, and impossible to ignore. Every moment counts, and how you communicate in those moments wins trust, builds reputation, and moves the ball forward.
At kate & co. we’re always in the game.
